Following the completion of his studies at the University of Newcastle in 2000, attaining degrees in Law and in Arts, Matthew commenced work at one of Newcastle’s oldest law firms. Matthew’s practice included personal injury / compensation work, criminal law, civil litigation and family law.

In 2005, in order to focus his knowledge, he changed firms to work with one of Newcastle’s most senior Family Law practitioners. In 2009, Matthew became Managing Partner of Braye Cragg Solicitors, leading its Family Law team until August 2017. During this time, his practice involved extensive solicitor advocate work in Courts, attending on mediations, and negotiating settlements
