About

Kate graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons Class 1), Bachelor of Communication and Diploma of Legal Practice.

Prior to being called to the Bar, Kate was:

  • Senior Associate in the Employment Industrial Relations and Safety Team at Herbert Smith Freehills
  • Senior Counsel at the Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board; and
  • Associate to the Honourable Justice Curtain in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Kate is experienced in work health and safety (WHS) committals and trials, where alleged regulatory breaches become the subject of criminal investigations and charges. Kate has advised on State and Commonwealth WHS matters.

Kate has acted for clients in Coronial matters and Commissions of Inquiry. She also previously worked as a solicitor at the Coroners Court of Victoria.

Kate has advised on administrative law matters, including judicial review proceedings, and internal and external review proceedings arising from decisions of regulatory bodies.

Kate also has a keen interest in Family Law matters, and accepts briefs in relation to parenting, property and succession matters.
